MAY 21, 2011 Who knows where the time goes ??
I cannot believe that it has been so long-
but we have been busy. Of course the fact that it is still snowing here is a little disconcerting; but, on we go.
To update 'The Boyz of CR53' it is with heavy heart I write that Gunner was humanely euthanized on May 6. He
had been x-rayed and those x-rays revealed that he had been living with large tumors in his jaw. He had two different
types of cancer, both very rare. He was a very sweet and gentle boy. The others are coming along- they are gaining
weight, and allowing us to handle them a little more each day. Vince seems willing to learn, he is the oldest and is
a gelding. Perry and Snip will take a little different route- they will be gelded once they can be handled and then
go on from there. We hope to bring 'The Boyz' to the Eagle area within the next few weeks. Since we are
dealing with young stallions, their accomodations need to be a little diferent- so, when their rooms are ready they will all
be on the move.
Currently in Colorado, we are all dealing with restrictions due to an outbreak of EHV-1.
Hopefully this will resolve itself soon, without further loss of equine lives.
April 17, 2011
Friday proved to be a long and exhausting day- the afternoon was spent loading and transporting
the horses individually- once moved they seemed calm and relaxed- and there was plenty of hay and water. One of these
young guys was rated a 1 on the Henneke Body Condition Scoring, thin and
emaciated. Another has an abcess on his face, he'll be seen by the vet on Tuesday morning. Oral antibiotics
were started today. The three stud colts were born on the property they were removed from, they had never
seen anything else. By Saturday, they were relaxed and happy eating and sunning themselves. Two of the boyz were
able to be groomed. The other two were still a little shy, but hopefully, they come around soon.
We'd like to give them new names for their new lives, so stay tuned for details. Some of
these horses have registered names so we'll let you know what they are.

Today begins the rescue effort for the CR53 Horses. They are located about 30 miles east
of Denver, the owners have agreed to surrender four(three stallions and one gelding) of their fourteen horses. The animal
cruelty investigator recommended prompt action to get these guys safe and on the road to recovery. Alicia will be picking
them up and taking them to her home to evaluate them and begin their rehabilitation.
We will keep this
site updated as the effort continues.
RESCUE REQUIRES FUNDING- ALL OF OUR FUNDING COMES FROM DONATIONS FROM
YOU- THERE IS NO DONATION THAT IS TOO SMALL- DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE- IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DONATE: SEE THE PAYPAL

This update
is long overdue. Since the summer we have adopted out four of our available rescued horses. They moved on to new
homes all around the state and seem to be settling in nicely. We wish them each a bright and happy future.
In September 2010, Saedra had surgery for her laminitic hooves, Dr. Bryan Fraley, an equine podiatrist from Kentucky,
performed the surgery- attempting to improve her quality of life in the coming years. Her surgery was done at the Glenwood
Vet Clinic, you can follow her story at www.glenwoodvet.com. Saedra has moved to Denver with Alicia, and her other equine companions, and
seems to be enjoying the milder temperatures. She has been a trooper.
Hawkeye returned to the rescue after
a year in foster care in Yoder, CO. He found a job as a pack horse with a local outfitter- we understand he enjoys the work
and his new equine buddies. Hawkeye's winter vacation is almost over as springtime is trying to arrive in the
Rockies.
After serving as president of the rescue for the last six years, Alicia has moved down to the front
range. She is continuing to care for Saedra as she continues her rehab and is working with Misty. Shana has stepped
up to the president spot and is busy working on finding a new location for the rescue, as well as planning upcoming
fundraisers. While looking for a new home, we are still able to accomodate any emergencies or needs that would
arise.
Most recently MVHR was represented at the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo by Duncan and Misty- they participated
in the Rescued to Ride program. This included three days of basic training- to provide a foundation for their futures. This was lots of fun to watch and see the kids come into their own. To learn more about this program, checkout
www.RescuedtoRide.org. They are doing great work training the horses.
